Jean Athey,

chair of Peace Action Montgomery

will discuss our nation’s priorities, as reflected in our national budget. She will explore how we can change our country’s priorities and rebuild our communities to reflect our values.

 

The Militarization of America: At What Cost?

  • Explore the shocking extent to which our nation has chosen war and military spending over social priorities and how this choice dramatically affects our lives and our community.

  • “Follow the money” and see where it leads.

  • Find out what you can do.

 

Jean is co-founder of a new coalition in Maryland, Fund Our Communities, Bring the War Dollars Home,(www.OurFunds.org) which now consists of 40 organizations dedicated to a dramatic shift in our nation, away from militarism and towards human and social needs. She serves on the Board of the national organization Peace Action, and she co-founded the Washington Region Religious Campaign Against Torture.

 

Jean has worked at the Federal Health Resources and Services Administration; served as a Fellow in the Senate in the office of Dennis DeConcini; taught at the University of Oklahoma and Catholic University; and served in the Peace Corps in Tunisia. She received a Ph.D. in social services policy and administration from the University of Chicago.
